LinkedIn recently made headlines for reasons it would have preferred to avoid. The company opted in its accounts for training its generative AI models without user permission, prior to updating its Terms of Service (which were later amended). Unless you disable this setting, not just LinkedIn but also its affiliates—including its subsidiaries, partners, and parent company (Microsoft)—will have access to and use your personal data and content to train generative AI models. This raises a question: Does a popular frontier model like ChatGPT use its users’ data to train its AI models?
